Collector & selector

Texas Ranger specialises in soulful vintage sounds: from 1950s rhythm & blues through to 1970s roots reggae and rare groove. She has collected and inherited a vast number of records over the years, though says it would take her far too long to count them all.

Musical roots

As a child, Texas Ranger grew up immersed in the sounds of jazz, soul, r&b, calypso, mento, ska, rocksteady and reggae—be it from the radio or hearing her dad and older brothers playing records.

It was not long before Texas started collecting records herself. There were times when she would skip lunch and spend her school dinner money on records instead—apparently school meals were not that nice anyway!

Off The Record

Now well known as a radio presenter, Texas Ranger has hosted shows on community stations for many years. Her long-running Off The Record show on Unique FM currently airs on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Club nights

Texas Ranger has had various club residencies in London over the years. She co-promoted the popular Trojan Explosion at Market Place in the West End with Mark Professor and was a resident DJ at Harlesden’s Vybz Bar.

She is also in demand as a guest DJ, with recent appearances including the Jazz Cafe in Camden (warming up for David Rodigan MBE OD) and the Tabernacle in Notting Hill.
