Little is known about the mysterious Madame Boogaloo, but we do know she is Italian by birth and that she relocated to Brighton, England in 1980.
It seems Mary Boogaloo started collecting soul, jazz, rhythm & blues and funk some time in the 1980s and by the early 90s had begun DJing at Backstreet Boogaloo — a popular club night she co-hosted in Brighton. Although her initial intention was just to play at Backstreet Boogaloo, word got out and Mary soon found herself in demand as a guest DJ at clubs in London and around the UK.
Since then, Mary has DJ'd at many of the country's top blues and soul nights as well as regularly DJing in Italy and Europe. She is one of Right On!'s most popular guest DJs, having played at the club a number of times as well as having showcased her jazz selections at Home Cookin'.
In July 2004, Mary returned to Italy and ran the much loved Pre 63 and Blue Bar clubs in Rome, which saw visitors from all over Europe.
Mary relocated back to the UK in 2009 and now DJs at a variety of clubs in Brighton and London. When not DJing or buying and selling records, Mary works as a professional graphic designer. Her modernist designs have graced record covers and websites as well as innumerous vintage club flyers and posters.
